"Last winter, following an article in the World Herald, we sent for a radon detection kit and found that our exposure was twice the recommended limit.  We had a removal system installed, and now the radon level is the same as fresh air.  The state radon officer says anytime after Thanksgiving is a good time to test.  It's a hit-or-miss problem, but for $5, it's prudent to check."
